1st reading Am 8,4-7 * from Psalm 112 * 2nd reading 1Tm 2,1-8 * Gospel Lk 16,1-13

To give account of something is not a novelty. Jesus builds a parable on this word. Whoever is respectful must give account of what he has done or of that which he does. In addition, to whom one has to give account? To whom entrusted you with a take or a good to administer. Jesus is taking with his disciples: he must prepare them for some account. Yes, even to them is left a responsibility and to them is given a spiritual treasure, which is not that indifferent! They must face their own life knowing that one day they must give account of their behavior and the way they put to end their task. The person that Jesus gives into consideration for the parable is not an exemplary type. Instead of working for the good of his owner, he amassed alot of debt. So he foresaw punishment and firing him and thus he started to thing about the aftermath of this, his future. How will be he survive? Since there was still time, he started projecting for some action in order to gain some friendship and recognition from some person, diminishing their debts with the owner. He is shrewd. His dishonesty makes him shrewd. And Jesus concludes saying that the “sons of light” are not shrewd as the ‘sons of this world”.

What is that shrewdness that the “sons of the light” They also have to programmed their own future. When they will be presented to the Father and will be found debtors, what shall they do? They will have their friends in heavens so that   they will testimony for them? That is why they are encouraged to :”make for themselves friends with dishonest richness, because when this is found lacking, they will be able to accept you in the eternal house”. When will the richness be lacking? It is obvious that when they will leave this world. And what is the dishonest richness? It is that richness which does not guarantee a future, it is that which promises happiness, but cannot maintain the promise. The richness is dishonest because instead of fiving us fraternity, communion, peace, and reciprocal love, it impedes us favoring jealousy, prepotency and envy. Besides, it takes all our energies which we have to put for God. What shall we do with this richness? Jesus tells us what it is: we have to use it to be able to get the attention of the poor, to those who will certainly reach the Kingdom of God. Thus we must use the riches to help those who have nothing to live with, to those who are without means, to those who have faith only in God and who are working for him. The ways which can be sued to help are many and must be always valued, not only with generosity but also with intelligence, prudence and if they happen we must also take advice.

Jesus speaks also of a “true richness” which is given to those who are faithful in administering the “dishonest richness”. This alludes to the fact that in the Church, the responsibility for evangelization and for the guidance of the community must be given to those persons who have showed that he is not attached to the richness. These who like a treasure of the heart have Jesus, are adapt to work for the kingdom of God. It is important to see thus that one who behaves with his own good, if he uses them to love and to spread the gospel, or if he thinks of gaining with egoism and avarice. In this case to him must not be left tasks or services in the community: he will deny Jesus like Judas.

The prophet Amos speaks with clarity against those who think only of getting rich. Their fault is big especially if they have responsibilities and task in society, it does not matter i their responsibility is religious or civil. God will not forget “their own acts”.

The apostle recommends to the Christians to pray for those who are have in their hands the goods of society “the kings and those who have everything in their hand”. Prayer must be constant for them, because their task and duty is important, and from the way it is exercised, because even from them depends peace in which the Church can operate with serenity in view of the salvation of men who must arrive ‘at the consciousness of the truth:. The Church must be able to announce the gospel to whom does not have it, and thus it suffers the desperation and the emptiness, thinking that life is without value. Our faith and our love, exercised in peace, can help many to find the sense of life and even of suffering which we find in life. If this work, of transmitting faith in Jesus, we do not make it ourselves, we who know the one true God and the one mediator, Jesus Christ, who will do it? We are in need of peace for this work and we can do it with the fruit if we are away from the rich dishonesty while we will keep high the esteem of that which is true. At the end of our days we will be promoted and given the reward.
