procession: MT 21,1-11

Reading 1 IS 50,4-7 Psalm 21 Reading 2 PHIL 2,6-11 Gospel MT 26,14 - 27,66

Today we have walked all together behind the cross, joyfully singing because Jesus is our King. We have prayed like so to show the faith and love for God and for whom He has sent.

We have walked behind the cross raising olive branches as a sign of joy for Jesus' victory over our enemies. His victory is the one we have heard of in the announcement of His passion and death. He wins over the devil, which had gone far away in the desert, but with its mind set on coming back again. We have seen its return: we have seen it acting and winning in the heart and the body of the high priests, of the guards, of Jude, of the soldiers, of one of the thieves, of Pilate.

In Jesus' heart and actions, however, the devil has been defeated again. Jesus has not yielded, He has not opened His heart to lies, vengeance, hatred, selfishness, anger, rebellion against the Father. The enemy cannot find anything of its in Jesus.

Jesus welcomes all provocations, and the sufferings that are inflicted on Him, as occasions to offer Himself to the Father: He lives them as invitations to love. In this way He tells us that He is the fullness of the Father’s love for us all. Even the abandonment by Peter and His closest disciples He lives as occasion to entrust Himself to God and make His love even brighter: He is left alone, knowing that He is not alone, because He is Son, and therefore He knows that the Father without Him would not even be Father anymore. The latter cannot abandon Him, notwithstanding appearances would make us believe that He has been abandoned by Him too. He is the only man able to live in God’s light until the end, and beyond the end of His last breath. Jesus offers Himself up alone and by  Himself saves the world.

We are looking at Him, meditating all the moments of the passion, and we will find the time and the will to continue also in the coming days.

With a new intensity, detached from what the world is advising us to do, let us live a Holy Week, different, particularly united to our Lord, because we want to show Him love and thankfulness, since we too have been saved by His wounds.

During this week our knees will bend more frequently, we will live somberly and frugal, we will make sure to keep our hearing interiorly busy with the few words that have been heard in the cenacle, in the garden of olives and coming from the cross, and to unite our tongue to those of all the people who will declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father!

We will be ready then to renew ourselves during the night of Easter, enlightened by the new fire and washed by the water in which will be soaked the candle which brightens up the darkness of the world!
