The Transfiguration

(House of Prayer, Studio iconographic St. John the Baptist)

Jesus went up the mountain to pray with three of his disciples. "While he was praying" his clothes and his face became bright. While he was praying! Prayer is the time when man reflects the light of God that stands before him. When we pray, we let between God and us many things be present, problems, suffering, sin, the desire for fulfilment, shades of selfishness. That’s why we do not become shiny. Jesus, between himself and the Father did not put anything, even wanted to give himself to him. His prayer was pure love, for he was all stretched out in love to want to be like the Father, to be immersed in it and carry in itself the perfect love of God. The men were frightened, feeling that this was a moment that resembles to death. But God has reached heard the desire of Jesus, and therefore has "had" to say: "This is my Son, my Chosen, listen to him."The icon wants to present this mystery. The figure of Jesus is in the halo of light and radiates light all around. Its light reaches the three witnesses, the frightened disciples, however, that seek to understand and hear the voice from heaven. Witnesses are also Moses with the Tablets of the Law in his hand, and Elijah the Prophet great defender of the faith. They listen to Jesus and talk with him about the plan of God without understanding that they have prophesied. Now Jesus tells them, speaking of his cross and his resurrection, as he had announced to the Twelve. They bend in worship, because they recognize Jesus as the Messiah, the One who is coming to save the man from his fears, indeed, from his sin begets death and every fear that precedes it.We are present at this theophany, a manifestation of God, represented by the three frightened disciples and yet willing to accept the light and realize that the Word is from heaven: "Listen to Him!"
