15/08/2016 - Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

1st reading Ap 11,19a; 12,1-6a.10 * from Psalm 44 * 2nd reading 1Cor 15,20-26 * Gospel Lk 1,39-56

The mystery that today we are celebrating e of which we are enjoying is the completion of our journey on this earth. The presence of Mary in heaven is her participation to the glory of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. and is the promise and prophecy for us who continue to proceed in our journey in the same way. This mystery is the completion of the love of God for us, of that merciful love of which we have been accompanied every day, when we were immersed in sin and when we have started to go out of it. The love of God has initiated its process with us sinners thanks to the participation of Mary to the same love. In her God was able to became human, he was able to enter into our story, be made concrete and visible to our eyes and tangible to our senses. When Mary accepted the Word of God she accepted and welcomed Jesus in her own life, and thus she always carried him with her. She was of service to his own journey on earth and them she remained at the center of the Church in order to accompany her in its payer and in her witness. We of her came to know little, that little of which the gospels give testimony. However of her the Spirit of God tells us a lot because he uses our experiences of faith and of love, which are the same love and the same faith which she lived. Only a word of the Gospel suffices for us to come to know a lot about her. When we come to know, for example, that for the greeting of Mary the baby of Elisabeth exulted with joy at her womb, we comprehend that all the life of Mary was a recipient full of peace and tenderness of God. We in fact enjoy when someone full of the Holy Spirit, goodness, comprehension and joy greets us. Mary must have been a young lady rich of these gifts of God, of those spiritual gifts which hide and grow when one lives with an authentic and true faith.

In fact, the words that the evangelist gives us as his own, are a proof of a joyous faith, simple and true, of an serene abandonment and full of the will of God, contemplated by her with attention and great freedom. Yes, we hear in these words of Mary a great liberty of which we should be jealous: she appears truly free of preoccupations for her own self, free from any desires of ambitions, free from all that in this word seduce men and fill them with jealously and superficial sentiments. She could not have said the words of the “magnificat” if shew was not free from all the attractiveness of richness, power and if she was not free from that pride and that which this produces in our hearts. Thanks to this great and beautiful liberty, she was able to recognize in herself the gifts of God, recognizing her love for her, a love which men also receive. Infact “from generation to generation all men will call me blessed.

People and we included, see in her the beauty of God of love, the full joy, that joy which is not absent even when she participates in our own sufferings. Our sufferings are caused by our sins in which she did not enter, but which caused on her suffering. We call her “blessed” and we are happy to see her participating in our suffering as a mother as she shares the profound joys of the friends of God. We participate from her own joy. We participate from her own strength, courage, hope and security. We do this participating even from her own “humility”, recognizing small and incapable, but recognizing above all that all the good things that we have is a gift of God. She does not reserve nothing to herself. She is a servant and she is at the disposition of the unknown projects of he father. She knows only that the projects of God are only projects of love, which give to those who obey peace and fullness of life for those who puts themselves under His disposition. Realizing this would be a great joy, even if one has to go through a lot of tribulations. Mary too had to go through these trials but these did not discourage her. She remains always joyful for her God, whom she recognized as “my savior”.

With the words of her hymn Mary responds to Elizabeth whom she calls blessed. True she is blessed because God blesses always those who offer themselves to him, and is blessed because living for the Savior one receives participation to his life and his glory.

Let us unite today to our Mother, to her joy: we too are great, in fact we are his children!
